The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international organization of the Catholic Church. The mission of JRS is to help refugees, displaced persons and all migrants in a vulnerable situation.
In Portugal, JRS was created in 1992, and since then, operates at many fronts: social support, psychological support, medical and medication support, legal support, referral and support for professional integration, accommodation of homeless immigrants, in a situation of particular social vulnerability (Centro Pedro Arrupe), accompaniment to detained immigrants (Santo António Housing Unit), Portuguese Language Courses and training actions, among others.
JRS Portugal is also responsible for the General Coordination of the Refugee Support Platform (PAR) and for the management and technical monitoring of the Refugee Reception Center (CATR) of the Lisbon City Council.
